Some pharmaceutical companies and medical device firms treat physicians to expensive dinners to discuss medical topics and try to persuade physicians to use their products. Should this type of marketing be permitted?
#Response DateOther (please specify)
.1/30/2008 1:03:00 PMexpensive, no, reasonable, yes
.1/30/2008 1:40:00 PMit is a choice to attend
.1/30/2008 2:02:00 PMDinners and discussion are okay, Persuasion is not
.1/30/2008 3:27:00 PMAs long as the message delivered is unbiassed
.1/30/2008 3:47:00 PMDinners should be reasonable not expensive
.1/30/2008 4:17:00 PMMeals are fine and necessary because of time constraints. The added expense of expensive alcohol is not acceptable.
.1/30/2008 4:26:00 PMcase by case: if solely for selling products it should be forbidden. if for counseling, it should be allowed
.1/30/2008 6:02:00 PMIt's difficult to generalise; decisions regarding this activity should be made by individual centres
.1/30/2008 6:31:00 PMNo
.1/30/2008 7:24:00 PMSpouses should be included since lack of spouse decreases ability to attend. Speakers should be given full academic freedom. "Canned" lectures are of little value.
.1/30/2008 7:50:00 PMAlthough I have done this in the past, I think most physicians are changing their minds
.1/30/2008 9:38:00 PMmeals should be prudent and discussion scientific albeit promotional
.1/30/2008 10:37:00 PMI think there are two types of dinner programs. Some are truly educational, and I have no problem with those.
.1/31/2008 2:49:00 AMmany other industries do it, and we get increasingly less perks in our lives. I think we are intelligent enough to make decisons with the information given to us
.1/31/2008 10:01:00 AMit ia a way to meet + discuss imortant medical issues with colleagues .
.1/31/2008 12:32:00 PMOk as loing as dinners not outlandish
.1/31/2008 6:10:00 PMDepends on 'real' nature od such dinners and discussions
.1/31/2008 7:01:00 PMIts their money and they can spend it as they please
.1/31/2008 9:20:00 PMthis question implies undue "pressure" I would prefer an unbiased approach
.2/1/2008 2:51:00 AMexpensive dinners, treats etc...no, but reasonable dinners with educational programs yes
.2/3/2008 10:05:00 AMNot very expensive dinners but going out to dinner is ok
